About Us:

The Coalition evolved twenty-seven years ago from the efforts of individuals and groups in Madison, WI that shared a common concern for enhancing the ability of older people to retain independent lives.

April, 1975
The Coalition is incorporated by the State of Wisconsin.

September, 1979
Grand opening of the Coalition's Senior Center at 602 Sawyer Terrace, Madison, WI.

January, 1987
The innovative Home Chore Volunteer Program begins, matching volunteers with older persons to do home chores that help them to remain in their own homes. This is a collaborative program operating city-wide in each Coalition.

February, 1988
The Coalition moves its offices to the Attic Angel Association's Outreach Building, located at 517 North Segoe Road after 13 years of operating out of rooms provided by Midvale Community Lutheran Church.

May, 1993
The Coalition established a loan closet of durable medical equipment to be loaned to members at no cost for as long as they need it.

April, 1996
The Coalition's Senior Center earns state accreditation from the Wisconsin Association of Senior Centers.

May, 1999
The Coalition's Low Vision Support Group celebrates its fifteenth year.

March, 2000
The joint 25th anniversary celebration with the three other Madison Coalitions.

June, 2000
In partnership with the Alzheimer's Association, Junior League of Madison, and the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, the Coalition closes on the purchase of the Outreach Building at 517 North Segoe Road. Thus creating a nonprofit center called the Community Service Center, Inc. or CSCI.
